TSMC launches 1.6nm process: more power and efficiency

--

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited), the world’s largest chip manufacturer. Announcing the launch of the most advanced 1.6nm chip technology called A16, which improves power management and increases transistor density.

The technology is GAA (Gate-All-Around) production, which is used to place Nanosheet sheets that allow more electric current to flow through. This makes the chipset 10% faster and 20% more energy efficient, as well as installing 10% more transistors.

With this improved management of the energy transmission network, Makes the chipset have higher overall performance as well.

It also uses a Super Power Rail (SPR) power supply system that improves the connection of the chip to the power source. This has a direct impact on AI and HPC chips that require complex power distribution networks.

TSMC will start using 1.6nm production technology in the second half of 2026, if everything goes according to plan. It will be able to ship the first chipset in 2027.
