Phuket News Center – Plane breaks down on runway, affecting inbound and outbound flights Phuket Airport has 15 flights delayed, while Phuket Airport has taken immediate action to restore it to normal operation.
At 10:32 a.m. today (April 23), Phuket Airport (Thailand) received notification from the Phuket Air Control Tower that an aircraft malfunction was found on the runway. Unable to move off the runway and there is a need to use a push truck or an aircraft towing vehicle (Pushback tractor) to the aircraft parking pit to wait for maintenance. (Aircraft-On-Ground : AOG) The preliminary reason is that The aircraft’s hydraulic steering system failed. This resulted in a hydraulic oil leak on the aircraft runway.
The RTA proceeded to issue a notice to pilots (NOTICE TO AIRMEN – NOTAM) regarding the closure of the runway 09/27 in order to proceed with cleaning up the said oil spill. along with evaluating the value of friction on the runway surface to meet standards. The runway was able to return to normal use at 11:37 a.m.
As a result of the aforementioned incident, incoming and outgoing aircraft were delayed and 15 flights were affected as follows: 5 flights requesting to land at other airports (Divert), 5 incoming flights unable to land. Flights and outbound flights were unable to operate, totaling 5 flights.
